This is VIBE Spotlight: a weekly series that celebrates and shines a light on VIBE Arts’ roster of talented artists. Each Monday, our Instagram and website feature a different VIBE Artist and provide a look into their craft. Stay tuned and get to know the diverse talent that makes up our organization and community with #VIBESpotlight.
On this VIBE Spotlight, we’re shining a light on Vero Díaz, an intuitive watercolour painter, ritual photographer and creative writer.
VIBE: Is there anything you are currently working on that you would like to share?
VD: I’m working on multiple creative projects, all looking to reclaim our Indigenous roots, ways of being and wisdom. I recently soft-launched Crystal Codice, which features watercolour paintings that aim to share channeled messages from the Moon, trees, faeries, and magical beings. In ancient times in Anahuac (now known as Mexico), the role of a tlacuilo was to be a poet and painter. This is the basis of Crystal Codice.
VIBE: What has been one of your greatest accomplishments to date?
VD: Being able to recover, heal, and start thriving – even through cruel life experiences. I doubted that I could go through it, but once I committed to myself, my path, and the recovery with my roots and cosmic connections, I came back together.
VIBE: What has been one of your favourite moments while being on the VIBE roster?
VD: Being able to share the transformative and self-assuring power of art with little ones has been deeply rewarding!
VIBE: What are some of your future goals?
VD: To launch an online Crystal Codice print shop, offering my watercolour paintings. Another goal is to continue and complete multi-year, multi-disciplinary art pieces with mentors. All of these projects include the voices of my Indigenous ancestral lineage from Mexico, multi-dimensions, and practical solutions for BIPOC communities.
VIBE: What is one of the greatest lessons you have learned thus far?
VD: All that I was searching for is within my reach and within me 🙂
VIBE: What changes would you like to see in Toronto’s Art community?
VD: More cultural pride, more sharing and more funding for Black, Indigenous and POC creativity.
