This summer, VIBE Arts is proud to be teaming up with StreetARToronto (StART), The City of Toronto’s suite of innovative programs designed specifically for streets and public spaces. Initiated in 2012 as an integral part of the City’s Graffiti Management Plan, StART has been successful in reducing graffiti vandalism and replacing it with vibrant, colourful, community-engaged street art. This summer, VIBE Arts is working with StART to create a community inspired mural at the Centennial East Recreation Centre at 1967 Ellesmere Road in Scarborough.
Following a series of community consultation meetings, the mural process began this July. Located across a large wall, the project is being led by professional muralist Ryan Dineen. Dineen will collaborate with a group of VIBE Arts emerging youth artists and volunteers to provide mentorship opportunities throughout the process. These youth artists will gain valuable insight and hands-on experience working with Dineen on high-quality mural production. VIBE Arts is grateful for the opportunity to work collaboratively with StArt, Toronto’s Ward 38 community and all artists involved. For updates following the mural process, be sure to connect with StART, VIBE Arts and artist Ryan Dineen on social media.
