This is VIBE Spotlight: a weekly series that celebrates and shines a light on VIBE Arts’ roster of talented artists. Each Monday, our Instagram and website feature a different VIBE Artist and provide a look into their craft. Stay tuned and get to know the diverse talent that makes up our organization and community with #VIBESpotlight.
On this VIBE Spotlight, we’re shining a light on Igho Diana, a poet, spoken word artist and creative writer.
VIBE: What has been one of your greatest accomplishments to date?
Igho: The #HairWeAre project! I got to curate my dream workshop series (thanks to Onika Powell, the VIBE Arts & ArtStarts teams) for young women on the politics of identity & beauty, hair, self and community care, that culminated in a two-week exhibition at the Gardiner Museum.
VIBE: What has been one of your favourite moments while being on the VIBE roster?
Igho: The emerging artist retreat in 2017!
VIBE: What are some of your future goals?
Igho: Contribute to changing the education system as a whole, write multiple best-selling books, and influence and impact many more youth and women to prioritize their wellness
VIBE: What is one of the greatest lessons you have learned thus far?
Igho: Doing less, doing well and focusing on doing better today than I did yesterday.
VIBE: What changes would you like to see in Toronto’s Art community?
Igho: A lot more genuine and impactful collaborations
