Julie Frost is no stranger to the arts. Of her 30 years working within the Toronto Arts Sector, 16 of them were served at VIBE Arts, an award-winning arts organization that engages underserved populations across Toronto through multi-disciplinary community-engaged arts education programming. After 16 years working at VIBE Arts, she will take on the role of Senior Arts Consultant of the City of Toronto. Frost began her career at VIBE in 2002. She used her extensive experience working in the cultural sector through her work as a visual artist/arts educator at the TDSB and TCDSB, Royal Ontario Museum and the Avenue Road Arts School to earn the role of Executive and Artistic Director of VIBE Arts in 2008.
During her 16 years, Julie’s influence and leadership propelled the organization through tremendous growth, a successful restructuring and name change. Through it all, the vision has maintained: to provide quality arts education programming to youth.
“The thing that I will miss the most is being at ground level with the artists and communities …
and the reward that comes with witnessing the launch of so many careers”.
Frost plans to continue to touch lives through her strong spirit of collaboration. This hunger for collective effort has earned her a long list of accolades. In recognition of her leadership in arts education, Frost received the Ontario Art Education Association’s 2011 Community Arts Educator of the Year Award, and in 2009 received the Toronto Community Foundation’s Vital People Award. Julie holds a master’s degree in Education (specializing in Arts Education and Community Development) from OISE/ University of Toronto and has served on many boards for Toronto arts organizations including Mural Routes, Arts Network for Children and Youth and is the founder of East End Arts, Toronto’s new Local Arts Service Organization.
Julie would like to express the utmost gratitude for the generosity and spirit that so many have shown her over the years. She looks forward to strengthening existing relationships and fostering new ones in her next role.
“This career has been all-consuming, and I have loved every minute of it”.
Thank you, Julie, for sixteen years of kindness, strength and resilience.
