Diesel Kang | VIBE Spotlight

This is VIBE Spotlight: a weekly series that celebrates and shines a light on VIBE Arts’ roster of talented artists and now the members that make up our small but mighty team. Each Monday, our Instagram and website will feature a different VIBE staff member and provide a look into the VIBE community. Stay tuned and get to know our organization and community with #VIBESpotlight.

On this VIBE Staff Spotlight, we’re shining a light on Diesel Kang, VIBE’s Fund Development & Administration Assistant. Dang has spent most of their life in the Visual Arts scene until they found their calling when stepping into the arts education field. Through multiple volunteering as an arts educator, they realized that all children have artistic talents and deserve quality arts education regardless of socioeconomic or geographic barriers.

VIBE: What is your role at VIBE?

Diesel: I am VIBE Arts’ Fund Development & Administration Assistant.

VIBE: What led you to the arts?

Diesel: I have been practicing visual arts, ceramics, and photography for a while – it has always been my first language to communicate with the world. After several years of taking a long break from the arts, I am thrilled to be back in the part of the community arts sector.

VIBE: What has been one of your favourite moments at VIBE?

Diesel: I am still settling in but I am absolutely in LOVE with the 401 Richmond!

VIBE: What is something you’re looking forward to in the future at VIBE?

Diesel: I would like to be part of every angle of what we do at VIBE – programming, facilitating, back-of-the-scene (Admin & Fund development) and, most importantly, witnessing folks to thrive in the arts through us.

VIBE: What is one of the greatest lessons you have learned thus far?

Diesel: It is briefly mentioned in the above, but I surely believe that everyone deserves quality access to the arts, with no barriers along with the value of Anti-oppressive perspective. This will lead to a more culturally robust community!

VIBE: What changes would you like to see in Toronto’s Art community?

Diesel: Social Inclusion & Equity in the Arts! Arts for ALL!
