This program asked the question, “Why should a Cultural Hotspot be immobile?”
Through an innovative Partnership with Pattison Outdoor Advertising VIBE Arts put the art of local children and youth on the sides of buses to make every bus stop a “Cultural Hotspot” at some point in the day!
Youth Xpress is a ground-braking, community-focused art initiative that engaged youth (6-18 years old) in the creation of original murals that were showcased on the sides of TTC buses and streetcars throughout Etobicoke and city-wide. Through and innovative partnership with PATTISON Outdoor Advertising, VIBE Arts, and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), youth artists created original public murals on bus-side advertisement panels, which were placed on TTC vehicles travelling throughout Toronto.
18 panels, that together formed 9 diptychs (each diptych is 139” x 30”), were created by youth in Etobicoke schools and community venues under the direction of VIBE Arts professional artists and youth assistants. Youth Emerging Artists (19 – 29 years old) acted as assistants to Lead Artists in the project, gaining valuable hands-on experience on arts education program design and delivery, participant engagement, arts skills sharing and mural painting processes.
